The STC of Autonomous Energy of MIPT is a center of concentration of scientific, design, engineering and research competencies
The Scientific and Technological Center for Autonomous Energy is the basic competence center of MIPT in the field of scientific, design and engineering solutions for the design and construction of innovative electric power facilities. The STC is engaged in research and development that can be applied to power supply of remote and hard-to-reach territories and facilities.
The STC of Autonomous Energy of MIPT was established in 2017. The STC has created all the conditions for implementing the principle of a "full cycle" — from idea to practical implementation in the energy sector.
The Scientific and Technological Center for Autonomous Energy is the basic competence center of MIPT in the field of scientific, design and engineering solutions for the design and construction of innovative electric power facilities. The STC is engaged in research and development that can be applied to power supply of remote and hard-to-reach territories and facilities, isolated settlements, including those in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation. The STC acts as an integrator of complex engineering tasks for the deployment and modernization of autonomous energy systems using alternative energy sources, energy storage and distribution systems.
The STC of Autonomous Energy of MIPT was established in 2017. It was then that the Arctic Research Program was launched at MIPT as part of the execution of the order of the President of the Russian Federation. The STC has created all the conditions for implementing the principle of a "full cycle" — from idea to practical implementation in the energy sector.
The STC of Autonomous Energy of MIPT includes several departments

Laboratory of Renewable Energy Sources
Laboratory of Hydrogen Energy

Scientific and Production Department of Energy Storage
Engineering Center "Arctic Autonomous Energy"

Director of the Scientific and Technological Center for Autonomous Energy of MIPT (took office on March 13, 2025), President of the Small Energy Association, Member of the General Council, Chairman of the Small Generation Subcommittee of "Business Russia", Director of MKS Group of Companies.
Maxim Zagornov was born on June 8, 1973 in Tashkent. In 1996, he graduated from the Aerospace Faculty of South Ural State University. He also studied at the postgraduate program of Tomsk Polytechnic University (Department of Nuclear and Thermal Power Plants). In 2005, he founded MKS Group of Companies — an engineering enterprise engaged in turnkey construction of energy facilities. Over 20 years, the company has commissioned more than 60 gas piston power plants with a total capacity of 350 MW and has taken a leading position in the Russian market.
In 2010, Maxim Zagornov founded and headed the Small Energy Association, which united the potential of the country's leading industry enterprises. The Association actively cooperates with government authorities and public associations to promote the interests of the small distributed energy industry, and annually holds the International Award "Small Energy — Great Achievements". Maxim Zagornov is an active member of business associations. He is a member of the General Council of the All-Russian public organization "Business Russia", Chairman of the Small Generation Subcommittee, and business ambassador of "Business Russia" in the UAE.
He has been repeatedly honored with departmental awards. In 2021, he received a commendation from the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation N.G. Shulginov, and in 2019, from the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation A.V. Novak for his significant personal contribution to the development of Russia's fuel and energy complex. In 2019, he received a commendation from the Chairman of "Business Russia" A.E. Repik for his contribution to developing cooperation with the Persian Gulf countries. He became a finalist of the All-Russian competition "People of Action" in the "Industry Driver" nomination, and winner of the International S.Yu. Witte Award for outstanding contribution to the development of the national small energy and energy-efficient construction market. In 2025, he was awarded the Medal of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation "For Merit in the Development of the Fuel and Energy Complex" II degree.

The STC of Autonomous Energy of MIPT implements projects aimed at the development and introduction of advanced technologies for the fuel and energy complex. The STC has capabilities for conducting a full cycle of work, including research activities, design, production and construction of innovative facilities.
"Snowflake" is an analogue of the International Space Station, but on the ground in the Arctic. The station will become an engineering testing ground and a "living laboratory" for the application of nature-preserving technologies of the future in the following areas:
The station creates conditions for up to 80 people to work — engineers, developers, students, graduate students and scientists. Russia has begun designing the Station in Yamal.
